Tardy Awards

Well, what with bad backs and mystery rashes I've been a little bit late in acknowledging and passing on two awards which have been given to me over the past month. This is rude of me, especially considering how pleased and flattered I am that people would choose to give me such things! First, from the lovely Louise, from Months of Edible Celebrations I got an Inspiration Award. Louise is a fellow book collector, and her blog is choc full of really interesting information and recipes from America's past, and a real insight into what they ate across the pond, in times of yore. Thank you Louise!

Next, Niki from Rural Writings (a really great Canadian blog, full of tips for simple living and great recipes...she's a baker all right!) gave me this Friendship Award. Given to those who

"... are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. "

Isn't that jolly nice? I'm umming and arring about passing on these awards properly OR doing my usual and giving the award to those blogs on my side bar. Aah! I think I'll do my usual. I wouldn't come and visit if I didn't think you were all good sorts and inspirational to boot. Enjoy your awards fellow huswiyves!

Oh, but before you go. Here's what I plan to do this afternoon...get the washing on the line and then settle down with my knitting to watch this GREAT movie on TCM. Here's the gorgeous Gene and the lovely Leslie doing their wonderful stuff in American in Paris...yes, they DO deserve such superlatives!

congrats on your award. I am off to check out those blogs--especially the one about cooking.

I wanted you to know that I tasted my first marmalade this week--love it!

Congratulations on your awards!

I've never watched that movie - I am gong to see if I can rent it. It looks good - I never realized it won so many Academy Awards.

Now I'm going to check out my fellow Canadian at Rural Writings :)

I noticed that you have my blog on your sidebar. Sorry but I had a domain name mix-up so I had to change it - I think you'll have to resubscribe in order to get updates - thanks!

I'm delighted you're feeling a wee bit better Dulce. You could never be rude...

Oh my goodness! next after Breakfast at Tiffany's, An American in Paris is my very best favorite. I was just looking for it on ebay. I introduced my grand daughter, Tabi to these classic musicals almost from birth. She is now 7 and almost ready for this one! She's been watching Cover Girl for weeks now:)

P.S. My grandson, Noah, who is 5 LOVES Easter Parade with Fred Astaire!

Hi Sarah
I think you'll really enjoy Louise's blog. I'm so glad I tyrned you onto marmalade...I'm a marmalade pusher.

Hi Kathie
I hope y ou enjoy American in Paris. It's such a lovely film. Niki has a great blog!

Hi Niki
Yes, it's on tonight and it's the highlight of my week (I'm not kidding)!

Hi Sarah (UK)
Ooooh, HSM! Oh no! Freya says that she adores it, but she's only seen it once, when it was on at Christmas, it's just that she plays it with all her mates at school. She loves it vicariously!

Hi Jody
I know you'll enjoy such gorgeousness. Great music and Gene Kelly is so handsome! Thank you for missing me!

Hi Louise
You're a woman after my own heart. Oh, Cover Girl, I love it. Rita Heyworth is so great in it! My girls love classic musicals too, they've been brought up on them. They're current fave is Calamity Jane, they're going through a real Doris Day phase, as they also like On Moonlight Bay and By the Light of the Silvery Moon.

So you're an Audrey Hepburn fan eh? I love her, my favourite of her films are Charade (oooh Cary Grant) and Roman Holiday (just marvellous). I'm an old film nerd, forgive me!

Thanks for those GREAT Doris Day suggestions. I can definitely see "demure" Tabi enjoying her. I'm going to rent them when the kids come to visit in June. (Hardly wait:)

I think my fascination with Audrey Hepburn stems from the dreams I had as a little girl. I was obsessed with ballet dancing, although we never could afford for me to take lessons. Thank goodness both grandchildren are taking dance. I'm actually going to Tabi's recital in Idaho in May (can't wait:)

I'm an even "older" muscial film nerd myself:)

Hi Louise
I'm keen on dance too. I love to watch it, but I'm talentless in that direction! My eldest can sing, she's a chorister but loves all kinds of music, my youngest is taking dance lessons (she's just five). Good luck to your granddaughter for her recital. It's a pity you live so far away we could all get together for a marathon movies and food fest.

Never Say Die, Dulce. Never Say Die, it could happen! My ex-daughter-in-law lives on the other side of the pond and we've been thinking about visiting!
