Nice Things in the Post

Well, I was absolutely thrilled to win Angela's rather generous giveaway and even more thrilled to receive the bits in the post on Friday morning! The bunting is going to come in very useful for birthday season, which for us is also the Christmas period. It will be nice to have birthday bunting up as well as Christmas decorations. I also like the Celtic labels, which I may use to label the chutney and jam I'll give away for presents this year, very posh. But mostly I loved the buttons and lace, rooting through the bag reminded me of my childhood days playing in my Gran's button box. Many thanks Angela.

A Happy Birthday Give-Away!

Tomorrow, gentle reader, is my 36th birthday. More importantly however it is also the 1st birthday of Bread and Roses. Yes, I have managed to keep a blog for an entire calender year, this is nothing short of a minor miracle. To celebrate I'm doing a bit of a give-away. If you fancy a copy of Hidden Art by Edith Shaeffer, a women's mag from the turn of the last century and a few knitted dishcloths, please leave a comment and I'll get one of the kiddos to do a prize draw on Thursday 5th February!
I also want to thank you all (yes, all twenty-five of you) for reading over the past year, you all make blogging fun.

100 Posts!

Well, it's been a very busy week. My mum has been visiting and we've had such a great time, but she's off to my sisters now and I'm busy packing for our camping trip to Cornwall. We're all looking forward to getting away, and (fingers crossed) the weather looks pretty tame, if not superb, for our holiday. It also seems fitting, seeing as I'll be away from the PC for a while, that this should be my 100th post. And, in time-honoured tradition, I shall be doing a bit of a giveaway just to say thank you to my readers (all 20 of you!lol!)
I have a nice book, dating from the immediate post-war period, "Odham's Household Encyclopedia", which gives a delightful insight into British homemaking in the late 1940s. There are chapters on home sewing, cooking, DIY, home design and child care. I've used the jamming and canning instructions in this book (they work very well) and I do like the illustrations, some of which are in colour.

Now, if you fancy having a read through this vintage gem, then just leave a comment and I'll pick the winning name out of the hat when I come back from my holidays on 2nd September. I may throw in some knitted dish cloths and perhaps some homemade jam (post lady permitting) for the lucky winner too.

Thank you again gentle reader, for it is you who make blogging fun!

EDIT: I'm happy to post the book to foreign climbs!
